Hertford Astronomy Group Observing Section(HAGOBS)
Would you like to join in with a bit of group observing?Whether you are a naked eye, binocular or telescope observer it can be much more fun gathering together and sharing the views. We have a group where we can meet up and spend some time viewing the wonders of the night sky.Naturally, our biggest enemy is cloud so we have to be ready to go and just as ready to cancel should conditions change. We have arranged with a local parish council that we can use the field at Bramfield village when conditions are favourable. We have a few conditions of our own to make sure that observers are safe and respectful to local residents.Sounds interesting? Just complete the “Visual Observing Response” form so that we can contact you when we are planning our next session. We look forward to seeing you and some stars!*Please note that this is only open to paid up members of HAG. Not a member? Just sign up and join in!
How it works.•Register your interest with the “Visual Observing Response” button above.•One of our team will contact you via WhatsApp or email 2-3 days ahead of when they are planning to hold an observation evening.•You will need to respond to that invitation so that we will know if the event is viable.•Just turn up between the hours stated in the invitation.•If the event has to be cancelled for any reason you will be notified up to two hours before the start time.
At the moment we have an arrangement with Bramfield, Hertford.(What 3 words https://what3words.com/caged.galaxy.junior)If you know of any other suitable sites then we will be pleased to hear from you
Sean Ryan’s Grand Tour of Globular ClustersIn late summer in the northern hemisphere, it’s easy to know where you are in the Galaxy. At dusk, the Milky Way extends almost vertically from the southern horizon to the zenith (and further east, of course), and low on that south-western horizon is the constellation of Sagittarius. Looking towards Sagittarius, we are facing the Galactic Centre, some 26000 lightyears away. From a dark site, the Milky Way is notably more expansive around Sagittarius than in other directions because of the greater number of stars and more interstellar matter towards the central regions of the Galaxy…..
