Exploring the Wonders of Astrophotography

Join our astrophotography group to capture breathtaking images of deep space objects, galaxies, and celestial phenomena within our solar system, including the moon, planets, and the sun.

Welcome to HAGAS!

With a telescope there are lots of things that we can view with the naked eye - planets, moons, nebulae etc. Some of these can be seen in great detail but some of the others can be, well, a little disappointing. Very often they resemble a smudge against the background.

However, connect a camera to a telescope and suddenly those smudges become magnificent items showing many stars arranged in beautiful formations often occupying areas of the sky many times the size of our own Moon. And don’t forget the Sun - we have ways of capturing images of our own star!

All members of our club are welcome to come along and learn about this wonderful method of viewing the night sky. You will be able to meet up with like minded members who will be willing to share their hard earned techniques with you so that you too can capture images that until now were only available second hand through the internet, magazines or books. These will be your images.

HAGAS meets periodically at the University in College Lane.

Meetings can be demonstrations and discussions from our own members or by visiting speakers. Sometimes these speakers are on the other side of the world and so we are able to share their expertise via Zoom meetings broadcast into the lecture room.

Have a look at some of the past meetings and you will be able to get an idea of what HAGAS is about.

We look forward to seeing you there!

25 February - John Hayes - US based Astrophotographer (Zoom)- Topic TBA

Future meetings and discussions will play a significant role in shaping the trajectory of our projects. We will gather insights, address concerns, and collaboratively pave the way for success in our upcoming ventures.
